This project involved three distinct elements: 1) conversion of two miles of the historic Columbia River highway into a paved bicycle and pedestrian path; 2) replacement of an existing campground; 3) extensive renovation of an existing maintenance building and yard. Some of the many, and widely varying, facets included: 1) clearing; 2) rock excavation; 3) earthwork; 4) grading and paving; 5) erosion and sediment control; 6) traffic control on Interstate 84; 7) concrete median barrier; 8) underground utilities; 9) building construction; 10) rockery and stone masonry walls; 11) MSE walls; 12) gabion walls; 13) lined and painted cast-in-place concrete walls; 14) a septic and fuel systems; 15) wood, concrete, and metal railings; 16) rockfall; 17) and much more. The contract allowed 3 years for completion, but Conway finished in a little over half that time.
