The Sabino Canyon Park is the only road connecting the metropolis of Tucson, Arizona to the summit of Mount Lemmon – the tallest peak in the Santa Catalina Mountains. This narrow, winding road is utilized year-round by both locals and tourists. This project relieved high levels of congestion at popular trailheads at the top of the mountain, improving pedestrian access and safety. Work on the project included construction of a new paved parking lot consisting of 75 parking spaces, a public restroom, improvements to the Sabino Canyon Park Road to accommodate 21 new on-street parking spaces, approximately half a mile of asphalt surface rehabilitation, and installation of a 5’ wide pathway as part of the non-wilderness bypass of the Arizona Trail.
